Posted October 12, 2018 16:06:37 It’s a strange video that has gone to the top of YouTube and had to be taken down after a series of comments on the clip prompted an online backlash.
It’s believed the video, posted to a YouTube channel called The Crab and Crab Soup Club, was filmed in the early days of the craze, but it quickly went viral.
In it, the chef is seen using a metal bowl to boil a small piece of shrimp.
“It’s very basic but it’s very effective,” the chef says as he stirs the water in a pot.
“I like to do it with a bowl.
I think it’s really good because I can cook with a spoon.”
The video has now been viewed more than 11 million times and racked up more than 12 million views on YouTube.
“He used a bowl,” said one comment.
“This is terrible!”
Another said: “I can’t believe he does that to a crab!”
“It was not a bad recipe,” the restaurant owner told ABC News.
“The chef’s really very good, but you have to have the right technique and you have got to have your equipment and I’m not sure I have a bowl.”
“The water gets really hot and then it boils,” he said.
“You can see that there’s lots of heat coming off the shell.”
But not everyone is convinced the crab is worth the effort.
“Why would a chef put so much effort into a dish that’s so small?” asked one user.
“If he can’t do it in a bowl then he can do it on the stovetop, so that’s not a good reason to do that,” another said.
In response to the video’s popularity, The Crab & Crab Soup Facebook page has been inundated with angry comments, many calling for the chef to be sacked.
“Is this some sort of a joke?” one person wrote.
“Not that I’d do anything to take a bucket of boiling water out of the pot and boil it,” another user wrote.
A chef from another restaurant, which is not in the video but shares the same name, posted on the page: “If you boil shrimp for the first time, you need to boil shrimp in boiling water for 15 minutes.
I don’t know why the video is so popular, but people have asked this question.”
“No, that’s what he said, and that’s the reason why people are asking.
That’s why they’re calling him a crab.”
The chef also said he had never used a microwave in the past.
“But I’ve never seen it in my life before, and I’ve only done it once before,” he told ABC.
The restaurant owner has not been interviewed by police.
But he has spoken to ABC News, saying he was surprised at the amount of vitriol that has been directed towards him and his business.
“That’s not how I’m going to deal with this,” he admitted.
“When people call you names, I don.
I try to be professional.”
But he is confident the restaurant will survive the criticism.
“My family and I are going to be okay,” he promised.
“Everyone’s going to understand why we have to be here.”
